Glass fish tanks are usually much cheaper than acrylic tanks but are generally heavier. They also tend to leak as eventually but an aquarium sealant can easily fix this. They are not obtainable in so many different shapes as acrylic aquariums. If you have in mind an exotic shaped aquarium you will normally have to buy acrylic. Acrylic tanks are higher priced than all glass aquariums but are lighter and, because they are constructed from one piece, don't have a tendency to leak. You will need to be careful not to damage the outside of the tank and keep away from using any harsh cleaning materials on them because this will cause tiny scratches on the surface making it look cloudy.

Aquarium Shapes

The long-established rectangular tank is without doubt the best shape for an aquarium because of it's high surface area to water ratio which gives the greatest air exchange. Then again if you desire a less common shape then you must make sure you aerate the tank adequately to allow the fish to receive sufficient oxygen. Acrylic tanks can be purchased in many different shapes which includes hexagon, round, cylindrical, octagon and also wall mounted or made into coffee tables.

What is the Best Location for Your Fish Tank?

When thinking about where to locate your fish tank ensure that there is enough space and that the weight can be accommodated.
